Data Strategy Use Case From 3 Months of Analysis to a Multi-Year Plan

1. About the Client

We worked with a large, highly acquisitive Telco. One of those businesses that’s constantly bringing new companies into the fold. With that pace of change comes a lot of complexity, especially around data.

2. The Challenge

They were acquiring and integrating up to a dozen businesses a year. Each one arrived with its own systems, its own habits, and its own interpretation of what ‘good data’ looked like. Over time, the sheer volume and inconsistency became a real strain. Operational teams were spending more and more time trying to make everything fit together, and the cost, both in effort and in momentum, was starting to show.

3. How We Helped

We took a step back and looked across the entire organisation, from sales right through to provisioning. We mapped out how data was flowing, where it was being duplicated, where it was getting lost, and where integration would make life easier.

We dug into the quality and completeness of the data and used all of that understanding to shape a data strategy that matched what the business really needed. To be honest, this was a big piece of work, far more than most organisations would ever require. Usually, a targeted approach is enough. But in their case, the scale and pace of acquisitions meant they needed a more comprehensive, in-depth view.

4. What We Achieved Together

By the end, we had a clear picture of the major challenges and the most promising paths forward. We turned this into a practical roadmap with phased steps, supported by the governance and process changes needed to keep the business on track.
It wasn’t just a strategy on paper; it was a plan the organisation could follow for years, helping them steer through complexity with more confidence and less firefighting.

6. What This Means Going Forward

Most businesses don’t need an all-encompassing data strategy. Often, a small amount of focused thinking on what the business is actually trying to achieve can unlock huge improvements. A little strategic clarity can go a surprisingly long way
